THE EVIDENCE

Hiring a Doula:

What You Need to Know

Preparing for birth can bring on a lot of emotions therefore the need for support during this sensitive time is important.

Research shows birthing parents who receive continuous labor support are more likely to have a normal vaginal birth + shorter labor and less likely to have pain medication, negative feelings about childbirth, and Cesareans. Babies are also less likely to have complications after birth.

Based on the research findings one cannot argue that the role of a Doula is essential. Hiring a doula is an investment with a rewarding return. In return you will:

  • Feel supported physically + emotionally

  • Have access to evidence based information

  • Have access to resources and tools

  • Have guidance to advocate for your birthing/parental rights

  • Gain a special bond with your doula :)

Let SLOL focus on prioritizing your families needs and desires to help encourage a safe and empowering birth.
